Temporal Obsession

I talk of time as if I
Held it. Saw it. Touched it.
But I only know its shadow.
I see its daily birth,
Watching it grow before me
As if it stretched from my toes
Upon the pavement of loss.
It crawls over each pebble
In this my aggregate life.
Gone again. Fleeting.
Meeting me over and over.
A lover forgetting your name
But recalling the games played
Between blankets and sheets.
Forgotten moments bounce like
A beach ball battered about
Until the tide takes it away.
