Hidden Gems – Common Ground

Rhythm Corps was a band from Detroit that formed in the early 80’s. They are not well known and broke up in the 90’s. In 1988 they released their first full-length studio album entitled Common Ground. I heard the title track and immediately loved it. There was something about the sound, especially the vocals,  that grabbed me; but it was the intent that held me. It spoke to me in a way that I so often wished others would understand. I don’t know why I thought of it today, but….fuck how timely is it? And why can’t we?

Can we meet on common ground
Are our views so far apart
there’s no room to be found
Can we speak without the sound
Of a world gone quite insane
Can we start settling down

I’ll not play the scene where the
threats start flying
You’ll not have to scream
’cause we’re not that stupid

Are your walls all brick and stone
and far from tumbling down
Can we seat ourselves around
A table for a while and talk like
friends we have found

We’ll not have to dream
of a peaceful one day

Are our views so far apart that
there’s no room to be found

Tell me can we meet on common ground

  1. Good afternoon dear Wolfie. In these times of so many sour divisions in our dear USA, we need more than ever this kind of fraternal message to heal some silly civic divisions. Keep howling to the moon. A patting form this canine creature. Guau! Guau!

      1. Look at it this way. Further proof that as much as things change, they stay the same. Everything can come back if it’s still in there somewhere. Hopefully that applies to morals, good behavior and respect for human life
