Song Lyric Sunday (3/25/18) – Seeing

Helen’s prompt for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday is seeing. It didn’t take me too long to settle in on my selection. This is a song that, for me, is probably the single greatest lyrics to describe how true a deep connection can go. The lyrics of this song say it outright. They say how someone else can make you feel complete. How willing you are to give up all pretense so they can see you. Without further words by me, I give you Peter Gabriel and the song In Your Eyes.

“In Your Eyes”
love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don’t like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes

  1. Oh, how I love this guy. He’s not from around here. He’s an alien, out of space and out of time.

‘the resolution of all the fruitless searches’
    Just how perfect is that?!

Thank you for this song. You couldn’t have made a better choice even if you had tried harder.

  2. Another all-time favorite! I could have sworn it became so in the early 90s when it was released (in my mind), but a quick Google search reveals it actually came out in 1986. Are all those workday, Walkman memories a lie, or have many of them shifted a decade into the future now? When did Chaka Khan do Into the Fire?

    I digress.

A perfect choice. I need more Pete in my collection. I’ll start by seeking out San Jacinto, mentioned above… 🙂

    1. He is someone I had come to appreciate more and more as I got older. I was big Genesis fan, and really dove into The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album. It was his last and, I believe, his way of telling the world he needed to begin a new journey. To find the real Peter Gabriel.
