Song Lyric Sunday (3/11/18) – Unity

Helen’s topic for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday had me a bit stumped. So much, in fact, I almost decided to tap out. But, as so often happens, I was struck but the muse and inspiration arrived. I thought about the word, unity, what it evoked. I looked up the word so I could get a clearer definition. That is what helped.

noun, plural unities.
1. the state of being one; oneness.
2. a whole or totality as combining all its parts into one.
3. the state or fact of being united or combined into one, as of the parts of a whole; unification.
Together. Not apart. Complete. And it hit me. So let’s go to the 80’s for a song about together. I give you Never Tear Us Apart by the Australian band INXS.

Don’t ask me
What you know is true
Don’t have to tell you
I love your precious heart

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I’d make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
‘Cause we all have wings
But some of us don’t know why

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never ever tear us apart

  1. I adore this song and INXS. An excellent choice, George.
Besides, I love what you did with UNITY. What a powerful little word. Oneness, wholeness, unification, togetherness, completeness.
I can do more if you’re willing to listen. Absoluteness, entirety, fullness, faultlessness, flawlessness, all-inclusiveness, comprehensiveness, exhaustiveness, extensiveness, inclusiveness, soundness, thoroughness, perfection.
    How did I do?
