People Are People

It’s obvious you hate me
Though I’ve done nothing wrong
I never even met you
So what could I have done
…m. gore

Hi. How are ya? Me? I’ve been down in my den for awhile but felt drawn to come out and take a look around. Winter is fading a little here, so one would think it safe. Sometimes thinking isn’t my strong suit. Sometimes I think too much. Take a look at these photos and tell me in one word what you see:

1: ________

Cat breeds poster in English

Now do the same thing for this one:

2: ________

different dogs

You probably know where I am going with this, but hey. It is MY blog, and I do so wish you will stay till the end. My hope is that you answered those two questions this way:

  1. cats
  2. dogs

I believe that most everyone on the planet would answer that way. Certainly the purists might throw breed names, but I think you’ll agree most would answer as above.

different people

Why is this one answered in so many different ways? We are all people. We aren’t white, black, or something else. We aren’t gay, lesbian, heterosexual. We aren’t Christian, Muslim, Jew, atheist. We are only people. People who are killing…and abusing…and hating other people simply because they have different markings like dogs and cats.

I think I better go back in my den. I think it’s time I stop thinking. I think it’s time others start.

  1. See how efficient it still is,
how it keeps itself in shape—
    our century’s hatred.
How easily it vaults the tallest obstacles.
How rapidly it pounces, tracks us down.
It’s always ready for new challenges.
If it has to wait awhile, it will.
    They say it’s blind. Blind?
It has a sniper’s keen sight
and gazes unflinchingly at the future
    as only it can.

To answer your question, it’s because we’re neither cats nor dogs, we’re people.

    1. I know, I know. It’s often why I prefer the company of animals. They don’t lie. Wonderful line from a movie I watched last night. When you look in their eyes you see what’s in their heart. It’s pure. There are VERY VERY few people I could say that about that I’ve met. I could count them on one hand.

  2. Do come out more often, Wulf. Please. This post was beautiful and needed and timely, and I loved it. Evil has been up, but the score is about to change; there has been a shift, and Good is rallying to the tune of a monumental comeback. Keep the faith – I am.

    1. I’d like to, I really really would. As Tom and I have said, though, sometimes we lose a few Optimist levels. It’s why I hang out in my den more with my poetry I think. It’s a lot comfier in there. Oh and the music is fucking awesome. 😎

  3. Absolutely spot on, my man. I spread this message everywhere I can, and even some places I’m not supposed to. People are people. We’re all people. Let’s be nice to each other. Let’s all just be good to one another, and to ourselves, and watch the better world evolve.

    Love it. Great stuff, brother.

    1. Thanks, Tom. The fatalistic side of me is what prevents a more active participation in writing like this. That and where I live/work is by far one of the least understanding of the repercussions of what’s going on. We couldn’t be any more Red if they tried. No capacity for critical thought. Complete inability to see through the smoke and bullshit.
