Rush Reboot (bonus track) – Ghost Rider (2002)

A friend of the Wulf is going to be reading the book that is the detailed journal to this song.  It is a tale of one man’s journey through a personal hell that I cannot begin to fathom. This is a tale of loss, but also of amazing soul survival.

How black is your night? How deep is that hole? This is the song Ghost Rider from the album Vapor Trails. (It is also an album many thought would never be made after the tragedies leading up to it.)

This is a song based on the chronicles of Neil Peart’s adventures on a motorcycle journey documented in his book Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road. Peart, who is the bands drummer and lyricist, set out on a 14-month, 55,000 mile motorcycle journey around all the America’s after losing his 19-year-old daughter in an auto accident in August 1997, and his wife to cancer just 10 months later.  Posted from Songfacts.

Here is a link for the book if anyone wishes to buy and read it.

Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

Pack up all those phantoms
Shoulder that invisible load
Keep on riding north and west
Haunting that wilderness road
Like a ghost rider

Carry all those phantoms
Through bitter wind and stormy skies
From the desert to the mountain
From the lowest low to the highest high
Like a ghost rider

Keep on riding north and west
Then circle south and east
Show me beauty, but there is no peace
For the ghost rider

Shadows on the road behind
Shadows on the road ahead
Nothing can stop you now

There’s a shadow on the road behind
There’s a shadow on the road ahead
Nothing can stop you now

Sunrise in the mirror
Lightens that invisible load
Riding on a nameless quest
Haunting that wilderness road
Like a ghost rider

Just an escape artist
Racing against the night
A wandering hermit
Racing toward the light

From the White Sands
To the Canyonlands
To the redwood stands
To the Barren Lands

Sunrise on the road behind
Sunset on the road ahead
There’s nothing to stop you now
Nothing can stop you now
