Rush Reboot (bonus track) – Dreamline 1991

The song Dreamline from the album Roll the Bones.

I am publishing a bonus track this week in honor of @BrookeBreazeale. Not sure how many of you already follow her, but you should if you don’t.

This is a song about following your heart, your dreams, and your passions; especially when we were young. I hear this song when I think of her, because that is who she is and what she has done. So this one’s for you, Brooke. Never forget what you’ve done and the lives you selflessly touched around the globe. I don’t know many people that will ever be able to say that.

Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

He’s got a road map of Jupiter
A radar fix on the stars
All along the highway
She’s got a liquid-crystal compass
A picture book of the rivers
Under the Sahara

They travel in the time of the prophets
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
Like lovers and heroes, and the restless part of everyone
We’re only at home when we’re on the run
On the run

He’s got a star map of Hollywood
A list of cheap motels
All along the freeway
She’s got a sister out in Vegas
The promise of a decent job
Far away from her hometown

They travel on the road to redemption
A highway out of yesterday — that tomorrow will bring
Like lovers and heroes, birds in the last days of spring
We’re only at home when we’re on the wing
On the wing

WHEN WE ARE YOUNG
WANDERING THE FACE OF THE EARTH
WONDERING WHAT OUR DREAMS MIGHT BE WORTH
LEARNING THAT WE’RE ONLY IMMORTAL —
FOR A LIMITED TIME

Time is a gypsy caravan
Steals away in the night
To leave you stranded in Dreamland
Distance is a long-range filter
Memory a flickering light
Left behind in the heartland

We travel in the dark of the new moon
A starry highway traced on the map of the sky
Like lovers and heroes, lonely as the eagle’s cry
We’re only at home when we’re on the fly
On the fly

We travel on the road to adventure
On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun
Like lovers and hereos, and the restless part of everyone
We’re only at home when we’re on the run
On the run…

  1. God, I really have no words, which you might know at this point is extremely rare. This is most definitely a first and quite possibly one of the kindest, most humbling things someone has done/said in response to my writing (excluding the acknowledgment/dedication you and Desert Curmudgeon did by referencing my work in your posts!). Thank you for this and for taking the time to get to know me through my words; they are the best roadmap, by far.
This truly does leave me at a loss for words… and melts my heart.

        1. I know she will, although I cannot say how much of an influence in her life I am. We have just become aquainted, and all I do is tell her the truth: that she is beautiful, and magical, and strong, and brilliant. (that’s in case she reads this because she needs reminding). Oh and Tanya too if she is eavesdropping. 😁
