Tropical Surrender

One of the advantages of living in a sub-tropical environment are the plants we get to have. This bromeliad is one of a few we have in our backyard. I saw it today and was inspired to take this picture while it was raining. That, in turn, inspired this poem.

She blooms with abandon this rare find.
Her colors did call me. Catch me. Snare me.
I am drawn to her from distance wide.
No barrier through time nor tide
Will win it’s waging war to stop me. To keep me.
Her leaves, her petals in color kaleidoscopic
Beckon me. Beseech me. Reach me.
Open, I find her, this flowering prize.
Victor at last I lay at her roots. And sigh.
