Celebration – A Plan Comes Together and Falls Right Apart

Part 2.

Note I erroneously stated in this first entry that we were attending the 25th Anniversary, but it was the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars movie.

Day one of the convention started wonderfully.  I remember the morning as magic with us waking up early like two kids on Christmas. I even recall the wonderful Belgian waffle I had for that first day’s breakfast. So me and “my boy”, as I shall call him, sat there enjoying our breakfast while we looked at the plan and programs for the day. We carefully reviewed the strategies we worked out while in our beds the night before. Breakfast completed, we hopped in our landspeeder and whisked ourselves to the convention center.

We arrived with no trouble and even found a place to park not too far from the convention center. The trek (yeah I did that), to the center itself was fun as we marveled at the costumes. We did not dress up for anyone wondering. I will say, however, that the first amazing thing that set the bar was this person dressed as Boba Fett, and yes he had a working jet pack that lifted him in the air.

Our first focus for Day One was hitting the special purchase area for collectibles to make sure we were able to get our hands on some of the limited edition convention only items that we could hold and eventually make a profit. Oh, btw, we both have extras of these if anyone wants:

From there we began the adventure of walking about, examining props and people, and just general spectating until our first scheduled event:

The One Man Star Wars Trilogy

Fans of the Star Wars movies and fans of live theater enjoyed an exceptional show each time the energetic Charles Ross performed The One Man Star Wars Trilogy. The Canadian actor delighted audiences daily at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28, with a special 6:00 PM showing on Thursday, May 24 for Fan Club members.

I have to say, it was incredibly funny. What WASN’T funny was the moment after that event when I discovered I had lost my lanyard. Yes I looked down and noticed the $300 access card for the event was gone from the chain which hung in lonely despair around my neck. So I now had to go to the ticketing booths and purchase another one…for another $300. Like I said earlier…cue the Benny Hill music right?

To give you all an idea of what sort of planning was involved, let me show what the schedule of events looked like:
